AACM Song Review: Southern Comfort Zone – Brad Paisley

Brad Paisley - Southern Comfort Zone (cover)Brad Paisley seldom releases a bad track, and he does not fail with Southern Comfort Zone. Although I am rather disappointed in Paisley for penning this song (along with Chris DuBois and Kelley Lovelace) which is virtually an inbred sister to Cash Creek’s song by the same name, which I love A LOT more. (check it out here). Since Paisley is sticking to the style, than Cash Creek, with one similar to that found on most of the American Saturday Night album, this track will likely miss a lot of the criticism that could come from something like this.

AACM Album Review: Early Ray – Highway to Jail/Country Music

Early Ray – Highway to Jail/Country Music
All-American Country Music rating: 3.0/5.0

A month ago, I had never heard of Early Ray, but after hearing about 30 seconds of “Where the Wild Things Are”…. (ok, it was really 23 seconds, right where it says “There is a place…”), I was hooked. I didn’t need to hear anymore to know that I was a fan. About a week later, Troy Perry of New Country Records, had a copy in my hands, and I have listened to this album now over 10 times.

Early Ray - Country Music (Cover)Highway to Jail and Country Music are two separate albums that were released two years apart from each other, but fit together one before the other seamlessly. Highway to Jail came first in 2010 and then Country Music in 2012. Early Ray describes their style as “Carolina Smash Mouth Country”. It is a country/rock sound that is a little heavier than what you might expect from a country album, but is not overwhelming. Comparable styles/sounds include, Eric Church and Eli Young Band, but even they are lighter than Early Ray. Continue reading

Bucky Covington - Good Guys (front cover)

All-American Country Music Rating: 4.5/5

Bucky Covington… Up until about 2 months ago, I had forgotten about him, until several “Buckymaniacs” started following All-American Country Music on Twitter (@cowboy_music). They were so excited about him. I had to do a refresh! With Good Guys, Covington releases his first album in 5 years, since his self-titled debut.

Immediately this album pulled me in. The rockin’ country beats are similar to those found on Bucky’s debut album. With a fresh copy Good Guys and a good set of Bose headphones, I laid down on my couch and was whisked away from reality and to a relaxing Shangri-La of country music.
