Others thoughts on this album
The seven songs Sunny Sweeney co-wrote come from her sorted personal life. Until recently, it?d been a hard couple of years for the 35-year-old singer. She wears the memories from a few failed relationships like a rain-soaked sweater. They?re uncomfortable, not always pretty and difficult to shed. Her first two singles, ?From a Table Away? and ?Staying?s Worse Than Leaving,? find the singer writing on the edges of her emotions. Then she was courageous enough to record what she wrote along that same sharp ridge. One slip and things could go horribly wrong, but Sunny Sweeney never slips. After ?Amy? and ?Worn Out Heart? it?s clear she?s spent a lot of time along that rail.
?Drink Myself Single? is one of the singer?s favorites on the album, and her enthusiasm pours through. ?Bottle of red / Bottle of white / Which one will it be / I can?t decide / I guess I?ll find out when I drink those bottles dry,? she sings with enthusiasm. But the uptempo country rocker doesn?t stray from the album?s theme. Some songs only add a dash of heartache, while others ? like ?Helluva Heart? ? serve up a shattered heart as a main course. This album works because Sweeney doesn?t wallow in self-pity. Most of these emotional songs are performed with a touch of sarcasm, and a surprising majority are fast-paced and fun. – Taste of Country Album Review
August 16th brings us new music from Eli Young Band and Jeff Bridges…
This week we have two albums that most casual fans would probably never hear of, let alone listen to. If you are looking to expand your listening from mainstream country music, this is your week!
Eli Young Band – Life at Best
EYB leads off “Life at Best” with the single “Crazy Girl, the perfect introduction that will lead the listener through a journey mixed with country twang, the feel of the Eagles and Tom Petty, and do I dare say… U2. There is a very different sound from track to track on this album, but like all good country music, the steel guitar is present plenty (not that you can have too much). Excellent Album.

Jeff Bridges – Jeff Bridges
Jeff Bridges new album is his first, although he was responsible for many tracks on the Crazy Heart sound track. This album is worth a listen. The man known as Rooster Cogburn (True Grit) and “The Dude” (The Big Lebowski) is now a full-fledged musician. This is an album for the serious country music fan, due to the from-the-heart lyrics and the true to life feel.
There is only one new album this week, but it is not just any album… it is Trace Adkins’ new release Proud to Be Here! You really need to check this out. It is a winner. “Just Fishin’” is the first single (watch it below). Other notable tracks are “If I Was A Woman” featuring Blake Shelton, “Poor Folks”, and “Semper Fi”, a salute to those serving in the United States Marine Corps. Continue reading →
New album’s this week include Eric Church’s anxiously awaited album Chief, and Randy Montana’s self-titled debut album. Church’s album is great, but I was a little surprised when I listened to it, not exactly what I had in mind. He is setting himself apart from the competition! Judging from Montana’s single 1,000 faces, I am expecting great things from the album.
Before you buy each of these albums below, listen to the lead singles.
